Buying Guide

Industrial Wire Shelving Buying Guide

Wire shelving is the workhorse of commercial storage — commercial kitchens, warehouses, walk-in coolers, hotels, retail backrooms and healthcare facilities all rely on it daily. These are the characteristics that matter most when choosing a system:

Finish & Environment

The finish decides where a unit can live. Chrome wire shelving is built for dry storage areas. Epoxy-coated shelving (black, green or gray) adds an antimicrobial coating that handles wet or dry environments, including walk-in coolers and freezers. Stainless steel and polymer go a step further with wash-down-safe construction and lifetime warranties against rust, corrosion and bacteria buildup.

Weight Capacity

Every wire shelf in this category supports a minimum of 600 lbs. Chrome and epoxy shelves hold 600–800 lbs each, while stainless steel and polymer shelves support up to 1,000 lbs per shelf. Distribute heavy loads evenly across the shelf and place the heaviest items on the lower tiers for stability.

NSF Certification

Commercial kitchens, food-service and healthcare environments typically require NSF-certified storage. Our wire shelving lines are NSF certified, meaning the materials and design meet public-health standards for cleanability and food-zone safety — an inspection checkbox you don't want to discover after the shelving arrives.

Size Range

Units run from compact 12" and 14" depths up to 36" deep — our largest available depth — with widths up to 72". Starter units come standard with 4 shelves and 4 posts, and additional shelves can be added at any time, so a unit can grow with your storage needs instead of being replaced.

Mobility

Mobile units come complete with 4 swivel casters — two with brakes — and carry a 1,200 lb capacity per unit, so loaded shelving stays put until you want it to move. Wheels can also be added to most stationary units later. For transporting parts and supplies between stations, 2- and 3-shelf utility carts are the purpose-built option.

Adjustability & Assembly

Wire shelving assembles without tools — shelves lock onto the posts and can be repositioned as your storage changes. Add-on shelves, casters and accessories are available for every finish, so the same posts can be reconfigured rather than replaced.

Types of Industrial Wire Shelving

Chrome Wire Shelving

Chrome wire shelving is the classic choice for dry storage environments — stockrooms, offices, garages and retail backrooms. NSF certified, strong and easy to assemble, starter units come standard with 4 shelves and each shelf holds between 600 and 800 lbs. The bright chrome finish offers a clean, professional look, and additional shelves can be added as storage needs grow.

Epoxy Coated Wire Shelving

Epoxy-coated wire shelving is our best-selling finish, available in black, green or gray. The antimicrobial epoxy coating makes it suitable for both dry and wet environments — including walk-in coolers and freezers — and every shelf holds up to 800 lbs, backed by a 15-year warranty. It's the go-to choice when chrome's dry-only limitation is a problem but stainless pricing isn't necessary.

Stainless Steel Shelving

NSF stainless steel shelving is the premium option for commercial kitchens and wash-down environments. Each shelf supports up to 1,000 lbs, and the units carry a lifetime warranty against rust, corrosion and bacteria buildup. Suitable for dry or wet use — including freezers and walk-in coolers — stainless is the finish of choice where hygiene and longevity matter most.

Polymer Shelving

Polymer shelving offers a simple, cost-effective storage solution that's exceptionally easy to clean. Each shelf supports up to 1,000 lbs — 2,000 lbs per unit — and comes with a lifetime warranty. The smooth polymer shelf surface wipes down quickly, making these units popular in commercial kitchens, coolers and healthcare settings.

Mobile Wire Shelving

Mobile wire shelving puts a complete storage unit on wheels. Every rolling unit includes 4 swivel casters — two with brakes — plus all hardware, with no tools required for assembly, and carries a 1,200 lb capacity per unit. Available in chrome, black, green and gray epoxy, and stainless steel finishes to match the rest of your storage.

Wire & Plastic Utility Carts

Utility carts are built for moving parts, supplies and product between workstations. Available in 2- and 3-shelf configurations in wire (chrome, stainless steel, black epoxy) and heavy-duty plastic, they provide durable mobile storage and effortless transport — so a cart can double as point-of-use storage wherever it's parked.

Walk-In Cooler & Freezer Shelving

Walk-in cooler and freezer shelving is offered in the finishes rated for extreme temperatures and wet storage: stainless steel, epoxy coated (black, green or gray) and polymer. These units resist mold, corrosion and bacteria buildup, carry warranties from 15 years to lifetime, and support 600–800 lbs per shelf. Contact us for help configuring shelving to your exact cooler or freezer dimensions.

Wire Shelving with Bins

Wire shelving with bins pairs a heavy-duty wire unit — 600–800 lbs per shelf — with virtually unbreakable open-front bins in one complete package. The bins are easy to wash and include slots for dividers and labels, making these systems ideal for order picking, material handling and inventory management. Everything assembles without tools, and wheels can be added for mobility.

Slanted Wire Shelving

Slanted shelving units include two flat shelves and three angled shelves that tilt product toward the aisle for easy visibility and access — a natural fit for picking operations, retail display and first-in-first-out stock rotation. The chrome finish offers a clean, professional look with durable commercial strength, and mobile versions are available.

Wire Basket Shelving

Wire basket shelving units swap flat shelves for heavy-duty steel baskets that contain loose or odd-shaped items while preserving the airflow and visibility of open wire. Adjustable heights and modular configurations let you match the unit to your space, making basket shelving a favorite for warehouses, retail displays and bulk produce or linen storage.
