A working cannabis dispensary customer sent us these photos of their vault six weeks after install. Over 500 visible SKU positions across two walls — flower, edibles, vape carts, topicals, pre-rolls, bulk backstock — all in crystal-clear bins, organized by SKU, visible at a glance. Here's what's actually in the room, and how you can build the same thing using our cannabis dispensary storage system.
The Setup
A single 8-foot run of our 18" × 36" × 75" Dispensary Shelving Units gave this operator the entire grid: narrow bins up top for pre-rolls and single vapes, medium bins in the middle for flower jars and edibles, wider bins down low for bottles, topicals, and bulk backstock.
Everything visible, nothing hidden, no pulling boxes to read labels. The budtender walks in, grabs the SKU, walks out. That's the entire workflow. For a full step-by-step breakdown of how we think about vault design, see our Dispensary Vault Storage Guide.
Why Clear Bins Change the Operation
Colored bins look clean on day one and slow your staff down every day after. With clear bins, a trainee can find a SKU their first shift. A manager can do a 30-second walk-through and catch a stockout. A closing-shift restock that used to take 45 minutes takes 15.
That's why we only recommend clear bins for dispensary applications — every other color choice is a step backward for visual inventory. The same logic applies at the budtender station: see Behind the Counter Dispensary Storage for how to apply this on the sales floor.
The Bin-Size Logic
Narrow (4-1/8") — 96 bins per unit
Pre-rolls. Single vapes. Concentrate jars. Single-serve edibles. Small accessories. Anything high-SKU where you need maximum slots in minimum space. This is the variant that earns its keep at operations with 200+ active SKUs. Opening a new store? Our New Dispensary Storage Checklist covers what to order before your build-out inspection.
Medium (6-5/8") — 60 bins per unit
Flower jars in every size (eighth, quarter, half, ounce). Edible boxes. Cartridge multi-packs. Most accessory SKUs. If you're only getting one variant, get this one. It fits the widest range of dispensary product without wasting space.
Wide (8-3/8") — 48 bins per unit
Tinctures. Topicals. Larger-format bottles. Pre-packaged bundles. Bulk backstock. These live down low where staff don't need to reach as often — perfect for the bottom 2–3 shelves of a unit where bending is easier than stretching.
Not Sure How It Fits Your Space?
Every dispensary vault is a different shape. We built the interactive Dispensary Vault Configurator so you can type in your wall dimensions and get a full unit-by-unit layout with pricing in under a minute. The companion write-up, the Dispensary Vault Layout Tool, walks through how to use it.
